Overview

Sinuosity, a trail planning, design, and build team rooted in Vermont, has been contracted to build the first machine-built flow trail system in Southern New England; Echo Lake is an old campground located in Burrillville, RI

  • Adaptive trail loop along the lake for riders with disabilities
  • Expands local recreation in a part of the state with few trail opportunities
  • Benefits local youth, schools, and the economy
  • Converts a dormant campground into a vibrant public asset

Timeline

2024

The State of RI approached RINEMBA about developing a mountain bike trail system at the former Echo Lake Campground in Burrillville. We partnered with Vermont trail pros Sinuosity Flowing Trails to design and build something truly special.

The State provided $15K for design, with RINEMBA contributing another $4K. Sinuosity got to work laying out the new network.

2025

RI DEM provided $185K to begin construction, NEMBA awarded a $10K Signature Trail Grant, and Sinuosity broke ground!

Spring 2026

Additionally, RI DEM has committed an additional $220,000 to complete the project as designed — including two machine-built skills areas and a jump line!
RINEMBA surpassed $60K raised for Echo Lake through events, donations, merchandise, and chapter funds. THANK YOU!

Summer 2026

There’s still plenty to do — Wetlands/environmental approvals are ongoing, and the State still needs to rebuild the entrance road, install gates, and construct parking. Sinuosity also has lots of trail left to build.

Echo Lake remains an active construction site. Please stay clear of areas where Sinuosity is working and give the crew room to finish what they started.

We’re hoping for a partial opening in summer 2027, with the full system following in late 2027 or early 2028, but we’re not going to rush it.
