About 80 volunteers showed up including some of our mtbking gang, Geocashers, Rhodie Rovers, RI Jeepsters and friends and neighbors of Big River. 3 hours = 3 dumpsters !! One of tires alone. All the steel went directly to the scrap yard for cash to go back to the WGCC as a donation. Thanks HUGELY to all that made the effort to show up !!!!!

Mark your calenders, Big River Cleanup is April 20th ! 8:30 am Exit 6a Park & Ride off rt 95. Free lunch and t shirts while they last. This is a great opportunity to give back to one of our best riding areas in RI. Its also neat to work shoulder to shoulder with other user groups and BR neighbors. As many as 150 volunteers have turned up for this in past years (around 25-50 mtbkers). The primary site will be the tires/steel/junk on Hover off Hopkins Hill Road. I think we can fill at least one dumpster with tires alone. Come with gloves and expect to get dirty. Beat up pickup trucks welcome….

Flat tire? No problem, you have a spare tube. Broken chain? You can fix that. Rear derailleur busted? You?ve figured out quick fixes to get you back to the parking lot. Chest pain? Fractured bone? Sprained wrist or ankle? Hmmm…..

Be prepared to help yourself and help others!
RI NEMBA is sponsoring a CPR and first aid course in March.

Heartsaver CPR AED
Tuesday, March 5, 6-9 p.m.
Content:

Adult and child CPR AED (with a mask)
Adult, child, and infant choking

Heartsaver First Aid
Saturday, March 9, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Content:

First aid basics (including scene safety, finding the problem, calling for help, and more)
Medical emergencies (including actions for choking, breathing problems, shock, and more)
Injury emergencies (including actions for bleeding, broken bones, burns, and more)
Environmental emergencies (including actions for bites and stings, and temperature-related and poison emergencies)

Each course is $30, or pay $50 for both. Successful completion of each course will get you your very own American Heart Association Heartsaver completion card, which is good for 2 years and which will satisfy many workplace first aid requirements. The classes will be held at JC’s Tavern. Buffet-style dinner (Tuesday) and breakfast (Saturday) are included. Note that we’re still a tiny bit unsettled on time and place so either/both could change slightly.

If you want to pick up this great training before the perfect riding weather gets here and while the trails might still be too soupy to ride without damaging them, email me at alanwinsor@gmail.com and I will add your name to the list (but please only do so if you’re pretty sure you’ll be going since I’ll be on the hook for missing sign-ups). First-come, first-served. I’ll respond with confirmation and any last-minute details.
