Wow! Nice Project with AMC in Burlingame

Wow,

What a great day! The “Bikers” alone built two long boardwalks. One was a perfectly straight 36 footer and one was a sweetly (and purposely) curved 24 footer. Craig wanted to build it banked up into the trees, but Maria was quick to put the kibosh on that! The boardwalks should make the wet sections much more passable, once the rains come.

A huge thanks goes out to Marc Antaya, Jim Grimley, Jeff Haitz, Jim, Lauren, and Leah Hoard, Matt Jeffries, John Machata, Craig Mello, Mike Oster, Tom Pearson, Steve Post, Matt Richards, Aaron Rome, and Mike Saunders and his fiance Lucy. Also thanks to the spouses of all those involved for taking the kids, etc., and allowing the hubbies to get out to little Burlingame and help a worthy cause.

After lunch, the afternoon shift helped the AMC crews finish up a couple of the six + 12′ bridges that went in on the gnarly, rocky, rooty North/South connector trail.

I would personally like to extend a special thanks to the AMC for buying and precutting all the lumber and providing tools, nails, drinks, etc. for the day. They are quite an organized bunch and help us in ways I’m sure we don’t even notice. I’m glad we were invited to an event we could mutually help each other on.

In all, with AMC, we built almost 140′ of ramped bridges and boardwalks! It was a nice team effort and I think it went a long way in building good relations with the AMC. Burlingame is certainly and immediately a better place because of all of our efforts!

See you on the trails,

p.s.-to those who might have liked to help…there’s always next year!
