Big River Heads Up

We came upon some new logging going on in Big River on the Carr Pond side. Off Hopkins Hill Road, both across the street from and behind the Cemetery. Behind the cemetery there are two fairly large clear cuts of over 2 acres apiece (one off to the East and one down the hill to the ESE). They usually do selective cutting in Big River so I’ll check with WRB and find out more. The trail through behind the cemetery then taking a hard left to get over to New London Turnpike takes you right through one of the clear cuts. Not rideable, not fun.

Update:
Talked to the Biologist at Fish & Wilde life, Brian Tefft. This is part of a 100 acre “native grasslands field project” ongoing in Big River. Essentailly, all the old open fields are going to be cleared and managed for native grasses. The two behind the cemetary (see 11) are the most over grown of the lot. Other fields include what we might refer to as the Coke Machine field (see 1); the field to the west of the Bever Dam (see 13, was a farm house there three years ago) on Cardi Road. Below is the best jpeg I could get off the kisok at New London Turnpike & Divsion Road.
