Update: *** From Beth (respond to her at msbc14@verizon.net ) ***

Due to the weather forecast and the high amount of rain predicted, I think it would be best for us to change the women’s ride to this Sunday (9/5/10) instead of Saturday. Same place and same start time, just a day later. I think this will make for a better ride. Hopefully this does not really mess up anybody’s weekend plans.

Hope to see you Sunday! I will be at tonight’s ride if anyone wants to discuss the change.

Thanks
Beth

Hey everyone, I am planning a women’s ride for Saturday September 4th if anyone is interested: Where: Big River Management Area. W. Greenwich, RI. Exit 6 off Rte 95, south on Rte 3, parking area immediately on left at top of Burnt Saw Mill Rd. Because this is an organized ride we will need to sign the waiver form. Plea…se see me to sign in on your existing form. New riders- please try to bring your own copy which can be found at this site.

RIDES:9:00 AM I was thinking about starting with a short/simpler loop ending back at the parking lot at 10:00 AM. At that point those who have had enough can leave and those who want to go out for a bit more of a challenge can head out for another hour or more. So, the plan right now is a relaxed/warmup ride at 9:00 followed by an intermediate ride at 10:00. Come for one or come for both. If anyone knows of any women (not already a part of this email list) that may be interested in a women’s ride, please forward this email to them. All are welcome! Hope to see a good turn out Beth msbc14@verizon.net

On Saturday September 11th, we have a pretty extensive project planned in Burlingame. There is lots of damage from the spring rains and several different areas are up for fixing.

To mention a few: Gravel near the end of Vin Gormley, bridges near the drain pipes at the end of VG, kiosk 6×6 steps near the kiosk, gravel at the playground waterbars, more water bars and steps near Klondike…

Can anyone out there drive a Bobcat? We need a driver!

As usual, bring a snack, bug spray, work gloves, hydration…AMC usually has most of the tools covered, but I’ll follow up with an email if not.

The day is usually a pretty short one and we work from 9:00-12:00 or 1:00. We meet at plot 492.

Hope you can make it! Please respond to this email if you can!

I went to one of the “Ride Like a Girl” series mountain bike sessions yesterday. I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of them. Info can be found here: http://www.gbnemba.org/rides/ride-like-a-girl.html

It is a series of 5 sessions, with the skill level increasing along the way. Yesterday’s was for advanced beginner to intermediate, but the skill level was a range from beginner to intermediate. There are two more left in the series.

I would highly recommend going. There are some basic body mechanic lessons at the beginning. Having biked for decades now (OK, I’m old), it was still helpful in that I realized I’ve gotten into some bad habits, and understand how to correct them. Then we went on a short ride, with frequent stops and intros to what skills to use on the next session. We finished up with a skill session on log jumping.

There were 3 women pros from Highland Park. How often do we get a chance to tap into this level of expertise, and for free???!!!!! Karen Eagan was the lead teacher, and she is a great teacher. She was very well supported by Alexis Wruble and Kate (? last name).

The next session is close to the one I just went to- a long ride but early on a weekend morning, I blew right through Boston. The last session is at Vietnam!

Hope this is helpful!
